Moving On Up #1 at New Star

International Kinetic Artist Ralfonso's lastest sculpture for public
places, the 5 meter tall (15ft ) "Moving On UP" wind-driven Kinetic
Sculpture, first exhibited at the ART IN MOTION 3rd Biennale in
Leeuwarden, Netherland - for movies and detailed information, please
see
http://www.ralfonso.com/moving_on_up_at_AIM.htm
- has been acquired by the national Russian development
company RBI Holdings (www.rbi.ru).
On July 15th, RBI invited 40 journalists and 150 guests for the
unveiling ceremony and cocktail party in the Grand Hotel
Europe-Kempinski in St. Petersburg, where the sculpture will be on
exhibit until August 15th. As there is currently no Kinetic Sculpture
in public view in all of St. Petersburg, RBI Holdings took the
opportunity to re-introduce this kind of moving sculpture.

Together
with the artist, the developer has created a novel marketing campaign,
branding their ultra modern new building "New Star" with the help of
this public art.
The elegant shape of the sculpture and its
attractive movement in the wind are made synonymous with the building and
its tenants through images of "Dynamic", and "Moving Up In The World".
This marks also the first kinetic sculpture addition to the
national art collection of RBI Holdings.
The Russian Newsmedia described the event as a revival of Kinetic Art in
Russia, where it was originally developed by Russian Artist Naum Gabo in
the 1920, but has been dormant since.
This architectural large scale kinetic sculpture was designed in the
USA, hand-build with high performance fiberglass in Switzerland,
exhibited in the 3rd Holland Biennale 2003, and now has finally found a
permanent home in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Ralfonso is a Swiss Designer of Kinetic Sculptures, working mainly in
Europe and the United States. He designs and creates large to monumental
3 dimensional kinetic sculptures that move in the wind and water. He
also designs sound-sculptures, suspended mobiles as well as fountains.
These designs are usually site-specifically created for commercial,
institutional and public buildings, plazas and parks, mostly in urban
environments.
Ralfonso kinetic sculptures are installed or displayed in the USA, China,
Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and now in St. Petersburg, Russia.
